The World Health Organization said Wednesday it’s “plausible” that there’s a tie between AstraZeneca’s
COVID-19 vaccine and rare reports of blood clots, but this still has not been confirmed. The WHO went on to say that additional studies are needed to understand the relationship between the vaccine and any risk factors, and that a group of clinical experts should be convened to recommend how to manage these cases when they arise. AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine, which has not been authorized in the U.S., is under scrutiny in a number of European countries over concerns about blood clots. Several countries including Germany and France have halted use of the vaccine, as a result.
